I just picked up a new program called HBlogger from www.normsoft.com. It enables me to type and upload posts from my treo 650 where ever I am. I can also do it by email, but I've noticed the email posting is a little buggy, so I am going to give this program a shot!

For the most part, when we hear stories about psychologists naming a new problem related to technology, we make the obvious assumption that they're trying to get some attention to drum up business. This leads to publicity over things like web addiction, video game addiction, internet addiction, text messaging addiction and many other such claims. While it's nice to at least see the latest technology-induced problem a psychologist describes is not called an addiction, it still sounds a bit overstated. A psychologist who studies attention deficit disorder (ADD) is now claiming that many people in today's high tech workplace are suffering from a related disorder he calls attention deficit trait (ADT). The concept is that you're not born with ADT, but it's induced by a workplace that forces you to multi-task all the time -- and that it's easily cured by getting out of that environment. He also claims that "multi-tasking" is impossible for humans, which some might disagree with -- but he does make some valid points on getting people to occasionally stop and actually think about things. Taking a longer term viewpoint is often very useful. Still, it's not clear that it's really reached the "epidemic" stage that this guy claims. If anything, it seems that as more companies recognize the importance of a better work/life balance, this becomes less of an issue. That means not doing stupid things like banning solitaire -- which acts as a mental break, or trying desperately to stop all personal activities at work. In fact, the psychologist points out that it's often the tech companies who are better able to diffuse this "ADT" stuff by understanding the importance of "play" at work. As such ideas diffuse more widely into the workplace, it seems like this problem shouldn't be such a big issue.

Chauvinist Feminism...

http://men.typepad.com/means_hour/women/

I finally came across a blog over at TypePad that talks about something that has been a soapbox issue for me for a long time. Before I graduated high school, I began to notice the over-compensation in American Society with regards to racism and gender equal rights.

Now don't get me wrong, I am all for equality; ethnically and sexually. One of the greatest arguments in high school between the ROTC department and the feminists involved was that women were not, and still not allowed to serve on Special Forces Teams in the military. The pinnacle of the debate was that if the requirement for women to be able to join these teams would they be have to earn that position at the same qualification level as the men, and at age 18 all women would have to register for the draft just like men do. Guess, what their response was, "No Way!" What they wanted was to have it handed to them, something I am not for at all.

It's well known fact nowadays by most white males that their chance of employment is less than someone else of a different gender or sex. The reason behind this is because if the company does hire the white guy, then the other applicant will scream racism or gender-bias. What happens if the white male sues for racism or gender-bias, he gets laughed at in court. Put 12 white male jurists in that court and he'll win. Not because of favoritism or the "good ole boy network," but because they know it's true too.

One thing I do want to point out about the article is the comment about your mission is to find a silent women. This is I disagree with...If God had intended for women to be silent, he would have made her walk on all fours with the rest of the animals, not able to stand on two legs and look us in the eye.

Look around you, is it equality, or reverse racism and reverse gender-bias?

Scott's Post on Palm Addict

Yahoo!!! No pun intended...I got my submision posted on Palm Addict !!!

"Thanks to Scott McClintock for the heads up "Hi Sammy, I found this site while browsing for Treo applications the other day. I remember when there used to be a Yahoo Messenger back when Sprint rolled out the Samsung I-300, but then Yahoo discontinued their mobile messenger in favor of a WAP based one. I've tried this app and it works great! I can't wait to see the final product."

Updates Info

Just a quick note for those of you who visit here regularly...

The links section will be changing soon with a theme closer related to writing and journalism, however the PalmAddict will remain!

Seeing as how I intend to write more frequently, versus link posting, the archiving format has been changed from weekly to daily. Not to worry, if you are looking for a specific post, use the search bar at the top of the page and it will search my blog and its archives for your topic, if I wrote anything about it. After the blog has its one month anniversary, the archive format will go to weekly, and after three months I will probably revert to monthly archives again.

As before I encourage all of my readers and guests to feel free to post comments to any of my entries. I would appreciate however that those comments remain on topic, or your comment may be the victim of destructive editing (deleted).

Job's Page - Your Link to a Newspaper Career

Since I seem to be on a journalism and writing kick this morning, here is another link that leads to a page full of good information with regards to getting a job in the journalism field. Particularly check out the section on the 10 do's and don'ts of the job fair. Some of them may be funny, but as Jeff Foxworthy would say, "It wouldn't be printed on there if someone hadn't done it before..."

Writing On Your Palm

This is a site that I visit occassionally. I found it when I was heavy into writing and preparing to go back to school and pursue a degree in journalism. I still may do that in the future, I just have toooooooo many things on my plate right now. (Too bad it's one of those cheap paper plates that keeps folding or leaking...)

Writing On Your Palm

We Need a Picture

After doing all of the spring cleaning this morning I realized that I need a little color around here, maybe a picture or two. Maybe I can get the wife to pose and show everyone just how pregnant she is...

Spring Cleaning

I decided to remove alot of the junk that I had cluttering up this page. I think that it is important that I retain the original puropse of this blog, and that was to give me a place to write and ramble and for friends and family to respond to those ramblings. I guess I caught up with too much flash and bang, maybe some things will return, but probably not for a while.

Another wonderful woman...

You can bet by the title my wife is immediately perked up and wondering who this bitch is...however I referring to her sister.

I just wanted to publicly say thank you to Jo. She was very kind to help us out while we did not have a car. She drove from Marion to our house almost everyday for two weeks, and that's no short trip.

Thanks Jo!!!!!!!!!!

Is there something wrong with the Canadian School System???

I was signing up for a drawing on the Huggies website (supposed to get fre stuff for a year from Huggies) and I read this in the Rules of the Contest:

"To be declared a winner, any Canadian resident selected will be required to correctly answer without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or other, a time-limited mathematical question. The question will be administered by telephone at a mutually convenient time."

Long Morning...

My morning was so hard, here's what happened...

Got to work and signed on at 4:30, sat there and read the news until 6:30, had training from 6:30 to 8:30, went on break at 8:30, logged back in at 8:45 for calls, took one call, logged out for lunch at 8:55, logged back in at 9:40, and I've taken about 3 calls since then.

A Good Woman...

How many of you out there can honestly say you have a good spouse? Not one that you have just learned to accept, but honestly say and feel that they are good to you? I can. I have a wonderful wife. I think one of her greatest virtues is her patience, with me at least, cause everybody knows she has trouble being patient with everything and everyone else! It must take an awful lot of love to be able to be patient with someone like me; someone who changes their likes and dislikes at the drop of hat.

Dallas and I have been married for a little over two years and known each other for about 14 years, and we still learn new things about each other all the time. The most recent discovery is that someone can say something to us and we both take it a different way. For a while this used to casue a lot of problems because the differences were there, but we didn't discuss the difference in thought, we just got frustrated that the other one wasn't on the same page. Through a lot of patience on both our parts, we have learned to work through this difference and actually make it a strength, instead of a weakness.

I am so lucky to have a woman like her. (Dallas, go grab a tissue. I know you're reading this and crying.)

A Hard Days Night...

Well, I'm still at work...which unfortunately means I am still employed...not that I am trying to get fired. These twelve hour days are eventually going to add up and take their toll...I hope there's a soft bed nearby when they do.

It's amazing...the company asks for employees to sign up for overtime and it is so slow! I've taken maybe 12 calls today so far, maybe more, but it sure doesn't look like it. I'm so bored...bored...bored...bored...bored-bored-bored-bored-bored. Get the picture? I'm almost to the point that I'd pay an intelligent person to call and book a trip.

PFSPalmTS

Just to help me fill my free time even further...I have taken on another blog. This one is strictly for Palm Tech Support for Primerica Representatives. Feel free to check it out: pfspalmts.blogspot.com

Amazing Little Button...

No, not that button! (Dallas)

I've started making it a habit when I bored now to click the NEXT BLOG button just to see where it takes me. I find it very interesting how other people choose to arrange and style their blog. I also found it a little funny that this morning all it would send me to was finance or life insurance blogs...very weird.

Check it out...you may find something interesting. Of course, you're only allowed to play with the button after you've read my blog and posted comments or at least left a message on the chatterbox...have fun!

Palm Addict Push...

In case any of you were wondering why I have so much dedicated to website Palm Addicts...it is because I have watched that page/blog grow and develope for quite some time now. It is updated quite frequently and always has good information.

Brighthand comes in second, but they also cover pocket pcs, and other platforms as well, but they are an excellent site for reference and reviews. Also, don't forget to check out their forums!

Photos Pulled...

Sorry, I had to the pull the car photos already. Due to the way they were posting, it caused my second column to be pushed down under the regular posts and made the page really long...really messed up my feng shui...is that spelled right? Oh, well, who cares...not me..at least not right now.

Cash Flow Quadrant...

Lately I've been reading as much as I can because I feel it helps me to grow; both intellectually and as an overall person. One of my recent picks has been the CashFlow Quadrant from the Rich Dad-Poor Dad Series. I definently recommend this book to anyone, period. It's not a book that explains how to get rich, or what jobs to chose, but it will open your mind to what types of opportunities are out there and helps you to understand what kind of opportunity may be for you.

One part that I just wanted to include, "To be successful, you need to learn to oversome your fear of being rejected, and to stop worrying about what other people will say about you."

More often than not, people reject opportunities that could satisfy their desire, whatever that desire maybe, simply becaause they are afraid of what people will think of them.

"What you think of me is none of my business. What it is most important is what I think of myself."

CashFlow Quadrant

Photo Experiment...

Well, I followed the instructions for posting pictures to Blogger through SprintPCS Picture Mail, but I really don't like the way they posted. Anyway, the pictures I posted are the ones that I took with my treo 650 to send to the insurance company. Since the picture share expires in May, I'll be pulling those post before then and posting the regualr pictures as soon as my schedule allows me to.

Survival of the Tired...

Well, I managed to make it through yesterday...all day...on three hours sleep. I did however pass out while watching the last part of the Roast of Jeff Foxworthy. Well, I'm scheduled for 12 hours a day for the rest of this week, in addition to my Primerica committments...I'm going to be so worn down by the end of the week, but at least I'll be caught up.

Smart Man...

While Stephen may be a little eccentric at times, he proved himself to be quite smart yesterday. A mutual friend of ours wanted to get a new phone through Sprint, but she was going to have to wait until next payday...about two weeks. Out of nowhere, Stephen offers to loan her the money until payday, if he gets her old phone. It seems that Stephen has trouble holding on two a working phone, as I've seen him go through two of them in the past couple of months and he's been phoneless for two weeks now. I guess the withdrawal finally got to him. Anyway, he's basically getting a free phone, just for loaning someone the money to get theirs early; and it's a nice phone too!

Sympathy and Boredom

If you notice the time stamps at the bottom of these postings, you'll notice that it is getting quite late, at least for me...on a normal work night. I'm going to be here until midnight and come back at 4:30AM for my regular shift and probably do overtime tomorrow. Anyone feel sorry for me yet?

BTW a friend of the family is in the hospital and we will be visiting her tomorrow. We ask that you pray for her as she undergoes surgery.

The Phoenix's Fire

The Phoenix's Fire

A lot of you will notice the little button in the upper right hand corner of the banner bar that says NEXT BLOG. Well, playing around I clicked it and it brought up this blog. I have always had a weakness for redheads and I knew my wife would kill me if I posted this here, BUT, I actually started reading some of her posting and they're kind of off the wall, but some are intriguing. So I'm going to leave the link here for now...it may dissappear later.

STAY EXCITED!!!

Man, this business just keeps you going...I have a reward/punishment system set up with myself in my desire for more money: If I do not have appointments set for the week ahead, then I have to pick up overtime at Travelocity. Anyway, I went home tonight on my dinner break and my wonderful wife has informed me that we have an appointment for Monday night and good probability of one on Wednseday as well. In return, I let her know that i had one person who made a committment to me to attend this week's open house.

So now we're both pumped up and excited and ready for more!

In the process of learning things, we have adopted the mentality of "Just One More." Look at a brick wall; pretty impress huh? A formidable opponent for anyone. Take away one brick...now just one more...just one more...one more...etc. Brick wall gone! Obstacle gone! Time to start running again!

Goodbye SplashBlog

It is with much sorrow that I announce the discontinuation of my photo blog. It will be on display for this week only and then will be removed permanently. Please feel free to visit the photo blog and return here to leave your comments on this post.

New Car Blues...

Well...I have a new car now, thanks to my old car breaking and throwing a rod through the engine block. I'll have a picture of it posted in the next day or two. In order to keep this car I have two options: kill myself with overtime, or build a business through Primerica where I don't have to overwork myself just to enjoy the finer things in life. I choose option B...time to get working.

Annual Survey Finds College Upperclassmen Are More Optimistic About Achieving Financial Security Soon After Graduation

"NEW YORK, March 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- According to the second annual survey by Citi Credit-ED®, Citi's award-winning financial literacy program for young adults, the nation's college upperclassman today have high financial and lifestyle expectations immediately after graduation, combined with a hearty appetite for consumerism. There are others out there

Sometimes when it comes to journaling or blogging we tend to forget that there are other people out there who might read and decide to share what we have written.

I was awakened to this today when I noticed some of the comments left on my blog by someone I don't know. Kind of an eye-opening experience.

Been a While...

Sorry that it has been a day or two since I have updated things here...I've been busy and at the same time enjoying a little time off.

First of all, I believe I covered the issue of my HR meeting...Spineless bastards.

Today, I just didn't feel like going to work. Yes, I know my points are going up and there's a shift bd coming up and I could really give a fuck less! I already have the crappiest hours in the company. What could they do to make things worse for me? Give me more calls? No-No, they won't do that, because then I might actually make commission!

P.O.S.

Piece of Shit? No, Pissed Off Scott!

It seems that the meeting was more to discuss my sharing an opportunity with people rather than the threats emanating from a coworker and their family. According to HR the complaints come from various sources, which tells me: that those who complained are a bunch of spineless, gutless, stupid workers. If you're reading this and that offends you, good! It means that you're one of them. These same stupid workers will work until they die, because they don't understand what the truth is. Well, when I'm retired, before I'm 30, I'm going to sit by and laugh at all of them for the next 50-60 years.

Food and Games

So much for the nap idea...After eating, my favorite coworker, Stephen, shows up and wants to battle WarFare Incorporated over our Palms. I know...how geeky, but it's a lot of fun and a pretty good stress reliever. We've both gotten pretty good so the games are fairly well matched.

Very Tired

I am so tired...I think that my wife's tossing and turning at night is waking me up or something. She says she's been having trouble sleeping for the past 3 or 4 nights and so have I. I think the real reason that I am writing this post right now is to keep myself awake. I have about 30 minutes till lunch; I think I'm going to eat and then go take a nap in the dayroom.

Threats...

Thanks to the kind email of one of my coworkers boyfriends, I have a meeting with the HR department of Travelocity. I don't take kindly to threats and in kind a police report was filed with the San Antonio Police Department. The meeting doesn't worry me, I haven't done anything wrong. When people open their mouths and present me with an opportunity to share my solutions, I am going to do it.

I will let you know what happens...

First Post

I always hate making first posts into blogs, journals, or whatever else...When people read the first post they expect it to be intriguing, inspiring, or at least interesting. I like Paul Reiser's Book, "Couplehood," because it starts off at page 146. No page one, you just dive in.
